Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference
At the Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference, Jacob Jenkins, Emma Jones, Jordan Potter, and Lydia Zhang (not pictured), mentored by Drs. Smith and Begeske, presented a poster on a qualitative study titled “Special Area Classes: Inclusive & Positive Classroom Practices With Elementary-Aged Students With Disabilities.” The study delved into the development of positive relationships between pre-service special education teachers and their students in elementary classrooms. The researchers analyzed the experiences of pre-service teachers who worked with elementary-aged students with disabilities in special area classes, such as physical education, art, and music.
Overall, the study highlights the importance of creating an inclusive and positive environment for students with disabilities in elementary schools. It emphasizes the significance of building strong relationships between teachers and students, which may have a significant impact on their learning experience and overall well-being.
